NOTICE REGARDING CORONAVIRUS
If you have been in contact with a confirmed case of Coronavirus, or have returned from China (incl. Hong-Kong), Japan, Malaysia, Rep Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, in the last 14 days and feel unwell, please call NHS111 for advice. Do NOT attend or call the surgery, as we are unable to give advice or arrange necessary tests. Thank you.
Increase in access to appointments with your GP
In order to improve access to appointments and to manage the problems we are having with the phone system, we have now made some appointments available to book up to four weeks in advance. We are also holding some of the afternoon appointments and releasing them at 12pm each day, rather than releasing all the appointments in one go at 8.20am. This also applies to advance booking appointments and internet bookable appointments.
We hope this will help reduce the waiting times for calls to be answered in the mornings and reduce the occasions when the phone system ‘drops’ callers out of the queue before they get through to the practice.
Our new telephone system is due to be installed in May this year.

Appointments may be made by telephoning (0161) 983 5850 (our phone lines are open between 8.20am and 6.00pm), or by coming into the surgery. Appointments may now also be booked on the internet, contact Reception on the above number for details.
Routine appointments are available to be booked four weeks ahead, and also on the day. We release morning appointments at 8.20am daily and afternoon appointments at 12pm daily, this is both for on the day and advance booking appointments. We have made this change in response to patient feedback.
There is a menu of appointments available. Most appointments are between 8:30am and 5:50pm on weekdays (except bank holidays). We also have evening appointments available as extra extended hours appointments (typically on a Thursday evening starting at 6:30pm for two hours). In addition, we offer some Saturday morning appointments (8am-1pm) as extra extended hours appointments. These are arranged on a monthly basis and details can be obtained from Reception.
The receptionist will endeavour to give you an appointment with your preferred doctor, but this is not always possible. Please understand that the receptionist can only offer available appointments.

In an emergency all patients will be seen by the duty doctor the same day (an emergency is a condition which the patient feels cannot wait until the next day). Please note that the duty doctor clinic appointments may be shorter than routine appointments in order to see all the patients who have requested appointments on that day. Please refrain from discussing additional non-emergency conditions as this may delay other patients. We have a daily emergency appointments dedicated for children under the age of 12 (Monday to Friday mornings except Bank Holidays).
We would appreciate if you would consider the needs of all our patients. We have an obligation to balance the individual requirements of a patient during appointments with other patients waiting to be seen in the same surgery. There will be times when unforeseen medical emergencies may delay your appointment time (for example if the doctor is called out on an urgent home visit, is presented with a serious medical condition which requires more time to assess and arrange medical admission to hospital). If a patient presents with more than one medical condition, the doctor has the right to ask the patient to make a further appointment if the doctor is running late (due to previous medical emergencies) or if the doctor feels there is not sufficient time to deal with all additional queries. We apologise if this causes any inconvenience.
Unfortunately there are a growing number of appointments that patients do not attend. This significantly affects the ability of other patients to book appointments more quickly with a GP of their choice. Please telephone as soon as possible if, for any reason, you no longer require an appointment or are unable to make your appointment. Alternatively if you have signed up to the online service you are able to cancel your appointment at any time online. Lastly, we are piloting the ability for patients to cancel their appointment by sending an email giving as much notice as possible to email@example.com Please note this email should not be used for clinical matters or urgent queries.
Bramhall Health Centre is a teaching practice. We have qualified doctors in GP training. We also have students from Manchester University and other medical schools with us for short periods.
At Bramhall Health Centre reserved car spaces for the disabled are marked near the front door. Wheelchair access to the building is via a ramp near the front entrance and there is a toilet available for disabled patients.
You do not require a doctor's sickness certificate for any illness lasting seven days or less. Your employer may however require you to complete a self-certification form (SC2) which is available from your employer or on the HMRC website.
If you are sick for more than seven days, your employer can ask you to give them some form of medical evidence to support payment of SSP (statutory sick pay).
It is up to your employer to decide whether you are incapable of work. A medical certificate, now called a 'Statement of Fitness for Work’ (see below) from your doctor is strong evidence that you are sick and would normally be accepted, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise.
You could also provide evidence from someone who is not a medical practitioner, e.g. a dentist. Your employer will decide whether or not this evidence is acceptable. If your employer has any doubts, they may still ask for a medical certificate from your GP.
The 'fit note' was introduced on 6 April 2010. With your employer's support, the note will help you return to work sooner by providing more information about the effects of your illness or injury.
