Increase in access to appointments with your GP

In order to improve access to appointments and to manage the problems we are having with the phone system, we have now made some appointments available to book up to four weeks in advance.  We are also holding some of the afternoon appointments and releasing them at 12pm each day, rather than releasing all the appointments in one go at 8.20am.  This also applies to advance booking appointments and internet bookable appointments.

We hope this will help reduce the waiting times for calls to be answered in the mornings and reduce the occasions when the phone system ‘drops’ callers out of the queue before they get through to the practice.

Our new telephone system is due to be installed in May this year.

Thank you for your patience whilst these changes are being introduced.

The Choose and Book System is used by all doctors in this country to refer patients to outpatient clinics.

Please find and read all the enclosed information that you will need to book your appointment by telephone or online. Please ring on time.

Patients with hearing or visual impairment can call in to Bramhall Library (next to the health centre) or contact the medical secretaries at the health centre for help.

Any patient may contact Bramhall Library (in person) if they need help in booking their appointment. (They are trained to help you make this booking but they cannot see any medical or clinical details on their computer). (Phone 0161 2176009 then ask for Bramhall Library).

Please be patient if you are trying to telephone the Choose and Book system, they may be busy at times and you may need to try ringing them again.  The Choose and Book system and the outpatient/hospitals are separate organisations from the GP practice, therefore, we cannot make an appointment directly with the outpatient clinic.  We do not have any information regarding individual hospital waiting lists or why waiting times may be longer at some hospitals than others.

There may be times when the practice may contact you by letter or telephone if the Choose and Book system informs the practice that your booking has been rejected or deferred.  We will then pass the information to you from the Choose and Book service. (This may happen if there are no available appointments at the hospital, hospital staff sickness or absence or if the hospital has referred you to another department).  Please be patient when this happens.  The GP practice usually has no say in how long patients are kept waiting for appointments or when appointments are cancelled or delayed.  If you feel that your appointment needs to be expedited because your medical condition has deteriorated then you may wish to inform your hospital Consultant directly by writing a letter to his or her hospital department.  If your medical condition deteriorates, then please make an appointment to see your GP for further medical assessment.

Further information on the Choose and Book system is available on our website: .  Please click on Clinics & Services, and then the tab Choose & Book Referrals.  We also have the contact details if you wish to directly contact the local hospitals regarding appointment times or wish to provide feedback to the hospitals regarding the hospital appointment system.

If the above does not answer any of your questions regarding the Choose and Book system then please ring the practice and ask for the medical secretaries, so that we can help you further regarding your booking or visit our website:
